First Time for Everything

Hi! My name is Katie Hynekamp and I was diagnosed with alopecia in the beginning of my sophomore year (September 2016). This year was all over the place, but during my journey I have found that time has really healed my wounds. I am more patient, forgiving, and at peace with everything and everyone. The reason I created this blog was to write about my journey. A lot of people I know, family members and even people at school, don’t even know half the things I went through behind my smiles in public. I am here today stronger than I ever thought I was and I hope you find that my thoughts and stories can help you through your own challenges and struggles as well (this is not for just people with alopecia).

So join me as I share with you my very personal story, moments of joy, despair, but most of all hope and happiness …and let’s just say it literally starts off with me kicking and screaming.  See you next time…

Katie

  2. I just want to say that this is inspiring!!! I got to BT and I’m a sophmore and every time I ask people if they know you they always say that You are the nicest person they know!! I just wanted to say that you should keep doing what you are doing!!!!

  3. I don’t know you, but I wish I had the strength you did when I was your age! I’m 35 now. I’ve had Alopecia Areata since nice I was 6. These past 3 years have been the hardest. I have lost all my hair on my head and my eyebrows. My hair is starting to come back in, but not like I would like. It’s just whispys. The dr said it may never come back in. I’m ok with that. I look forward to reading your blog. Stay beautiful!

    1. hello there! First off, thank you so much for this comment and for sharing me your experience with alopecia. We are the real rockstars! You have definitely been dealing with alopecia much longer than I have, but every day will always be hard. Someone will stare, come up to you, and maybe even do both! We have to be strong. Plus, no one will ever be straight-up rude because 99.9% of people have good intentions. No matter where you go, people will always be curious. Even though the doctor said it may never come back, stay positive. There is more to life than hair and plus it is a beautiful day to be alive.

The world would be such a better place if most people have just 1/4 of your positivity. #BeTheBestVersionOfYou
